Abstract

This study examines types of parallel structure and their meanings in Prophet Muhammad's Hadeeth in “Riyaadh Al-Saaliheen” by Al-Imam Al-Nawawi. It consists of an introduction and three application sections followed by findings. The introduction discusses levels of linguistic parallelism, the phenomenon of parallel structure in Prophet Muhammad's Hadeeth and its possible causes, different definitions of parallelism and the concept of similar structure. Section one studies parallelism of nominal sentences and its constrains; section two studies parallelism of verbal sentences; and section three studies parallelism of conditional sentences. The researcher tries to clarify the interaction between grammatical and lexical meaning, the importance of syntactic position in parallel structures of sentences, and their combination to produce the semantic meaning of parallelism in the three application sections. Finally, the conclusion summarizes the study findings.
