Abstract

This study aims to understand Abdulqaher Al-Jerjaani's method in his study of anastrophe, and to clarify  the rhetorical purposes he mentioned. The study seeks to construct a general idea about this, without going into the details, or discussing views. It uses a descriptive approach based on an extrapolation of all possible structural positions through which Sheikh Abdulqaher referred to this issue.

The study has come up with two general findings:

First: the rhetorical purposes that he mentioned concerning foregrounding have a general rhetorical purpose which is for grounding to draw attention to the for grounded element. The detailed objectives are warning, causing confession, reprehensive denial, contradiction denial, restriction, relay and assertion, and gender determination.

Second: Abdulqaher's study of foregrounding is systematic as it follows a scientific and logical order though its parts which are not totally related to each other. Accordingly, he bases his study on the idea that rhetoric is based on a specific arrangement of words.
