Camels in Grammarians’ Examples A Study in the art of Grammar and Social Impact

Grammarians were interested in the expression of camels and their names based on gender (nāqah for a female camel, baʿīr, and jamal) in their constructed examples, presented within various grammatical contexts and documenting different social situations. Since examples serve as the practical application of grammatical theorization, naming the year 2024 as the ‘Year of the Camel’ highlights its significance in Arab culture and motivates further exploration in this area of research

The study analyzed and examined grammatical examples involving camels, distinguishing those that aligned with the rules from those that violated them. It clarified their impact in the art of Grammar, how effectively they served the purpose for which they were created, and how they helped grammarians in clarifying and simplifying rules, making them more accessible to the audience while also reflecting their social life. The examples thus became a unique dual-purpose tool: one side for representing grammatical rules, and the other side as a representation of society and the era in which they were crafted.

One of the key outcomes was the grammarians’ emphasis on expressing camels in many grammatical categories and their linking of grammatical rules to social life through examples. They employed this connection optimally in grammatical lessons, producing a vivid and clear image for the learner. This made the examples more engaging, lively, and less abstract, while also demonstrating the enduring relevance of camel-related examples to modern society without needing alteration.

يسعى هذا البحث إلى دراسة (العدول عن مطابقة الجواب للسؤال) في الفكر التأويلي لدى العيني (ت855هـ) من خلال شرحه الموسوم بـــ (عمدة القاري شرح صحيح البخاري), وينطلق من افتراضٍ مفاده أن الخطابات الحوارية لا تخلو من ثنائية السؤال والجواب, وأن الجواب لما كان مبنيًّا على السؤال، متعالقًا معه حواريًّا, وجب أن يطابقه في التركيب والدلالة, ومن ثم فإن العدول عن تلك المطابقة لا يكون إلا لأغراض تواصلية تبليغية يتوخاها المجيب، وهو ما حاول العيني استجلاءه في شرحه للنصوص الحديثية. وقد اتخذ البحث من المنهج التداولي أداة للتحليل، بكل آلياته التي تعنى بالجوانب السياقية والإدراكية والحجاجية, مستثمرًا مبدأين من مبادئ نظرية التعاون عند جرايس، وفي ضوء ذلك قُسم العمل إلى مبحثين: تناول المبحث الأول (العدول الكمي), وتناول المبحث الثاني: العدول عن مبدأ الصلة (المناسبة).

Unspecified Spatial Items in Quranic Narratives: A Rhetorical Study

The study of unspecified items in the Holy Quran is a distinctive field of knowledge that has received considerable attention from Islamic scholars and interpreters. Unspecified spatial items are mentioned in various contexts in the Holy Quran, particularly in the narratives of the Prophets and ancient nations.

This research examines the rhetorical aspects of unspecified spatial items in the Quranic narratives of the Prophets and ancient nations, specifically from Surah Al-Baqarah to Surah Yusuf, and explores the benefits from their unspecified nature. It presents the evidence, elucidates their meanings, discusses their important rhetorical phenomena, and extracts the secrets, benefits, and rhetorical purposes. It also explores significant rhetorical techniques in the Quranic narratives to emphasize meanings and ideas, contributing to contemplation and reflection on the Quran's miraculous nature.

This study consists of an introduction and two sections. The introduction provides an overview of unspecified items, including their types, notable figures in the field, causes of unspecificity, and the significance of Quranic narrative and its purposes. The first section focuses on studying the evidence of these items in the narratives of the Prophets. The second section examines the evidence of these items in the narratives of ancient nations.

The Semantic Plot in the Holy Qur’an: The Story of Moses with Al- Khidr -peace be upon them- as a Model

Abstract

This research aims to detect a criterion of contemporary linguistic theory, which is the semantic plot in the story of Moses with Al-Khidr -peace be upon them- as a model. The semantic plot means the sequential connection of text elements, through the methods which play a role in the cohesion of the text and making it a cohesive unit, containing: semantic relationships, context elements, and the overall semantic structure.

This research concluded that the opinions of ancient rhetoricians are important precursors, on the other side, the completion of the concept of plot was at the hands of contemporary textual theories.

As well as the semantic relationships also play a role in the cohesion of the story; as the causal relationship added a sequential dimension; each action has a result governed by a logical relationship that depends on reference to the distant and advanced.

The context played a role in the plot, whereas it enabled the reader to understand the story, link its events, and detect its semantic cohesion.

However, the overall semantic structure of the story lies in: the importance of applying for the knowledge and patience in its difficulties, and identifying it is done by using the four rules with the necessity of the reader's participation as he is the one who selects them.

This study recommends paying attention to other theoretical textual criteria and identifying their role in the coherence of texts.

Abstract:

This study is based on discovering the literary appearance through which the small (ecological) discourses are identified in the Saudi novel, especially in the novels that exude the environment, and stem from it. Therefore, the study aims to examine the literature of that rhetorical genre through a model, which is the novel (Tears of the Sand) by the Saudi writer Shteiwi Al-Ghaithi, which was born from the clear desert in the difficult requirements of management. Hence, experiencing aesthetics in such speeches will stimulate more creativity. Therefore, the study will focus on the most prominent poetic pillars in the discourse of the novel, which are: the poetics of time, the poetics of description, and the poetics of focus, then the conclusion of the study, its most important results, its most prominent recommendations, and a list of its sources and references.
