Abstract

This study seeks to monitor patterns of narrative recurrence - as defined by Genette - in "Tarmi Bisharar" novel, and how they invest in the relationships of repeating events between story and speech, then to reflect the semantic and structural benefits of this narrative recurrence. The study came in two sections and a conclusion. It showed that there were three types of recurrence patterns in the novel: repetitive recurrence, frequent recurrence, and singular recurrence, and the repetitive recurrence was the most common one. It was the prominent narrative phenomenon, and has achieved some semantic and structural benefits, including the integration of the parts of the event, and in turn led to the inflation that increased the tension of the recipient. The frequent recurrence was no less common than the repetitive one, and it has slow down the progress of the novel leading it to increasing inflation. It was also a structural spur via using proactive retrieval technique. As for the singular recurrence it came as a monitor of the moral of the novel, and revealed what is settled by the present narrative, through the persistence of narrator (Tariq) to change his reality, and the continuation of the reality of injustice symbolized by(Assyed). It also turned out that there was an overlap between these patterns in some events, which was a synergy in emphasizing the semantic and artistic dimension of these patterns in the novel.
