This study, entitled: "The image of the Sudanese society in the stories of Daumat Wed Hamed" – The Hill of Wed Hamed by Altayyeb Saleh, "A thematic approach", aims to reveal the characteristics of the Sudanese society during the rule of the English and at the beginning of the national government, which followed the independence in 1956. Moreover, the study aims to clarify some concepts related to the community, the story, and what each of the seven stories in the collection revolves around.
The story art has a significant impact on highlighting the characteristics of any society through the narrator's description of the events and attitudes of the community members, reflecting the literary / social image and various characteristics of that community.
The study concluded by mentioning many characteristics of the Sudanese society, the rural one in particular, during this period. In fact, The Sudanese are proud of most of these characteristics that depict the kind, merciful relationships not only among the members of the family but also the whole society. These characteristics are represented in some social events such as the traditions of marriage, naming the newborn, taking care of the parents, kindness to the young, simplicity, farming, grazing, trading, nick-naming, being patient in life, paying attention to culture, bringing up children and teaching them the Holy Quran and dressing in a way that distinguishes them from other societies, especially in wearing the turban and the wide loose thobe (garment). However, some negative characteristics do not constitute a phenomenon, as they hardly exist, such as: exploitation of the poor, the disobedience of some children, lethargy, the rush to divorce, and the spread of some insects and diseases.
