Effects of Syntactic Configuration on Semantic Realization of Poetry: A Syntactic Study of Samples from Abyāt Al-ma'ānī Book

Abstract

Meaning of poetry, verses of meaning and incomprehensible verses are three terms that revolve around the same topic, that is collecting poetry in accordance with its strangeness. The different names given to this are because it is not easy to understand the meanings of the words or to figure out their meanings. Many ancient scholars collected poetry in accordance with the aforementioned concept. Many linguists have, similarly, explained such verses. Al-Akhfash Alawast’s (d. 215 A.H.) is one such linguist who did that in his book “The Incomprehensible”. So far, this book has been missing. This paper attempts to conceptualize that book, by gathering comments of scholars about it. The paper also tries to explore the grammatical role and its influence on pointing out the poetic meaning.
