Abstract

The Saudi short story has witnessed remarkable activity since its inception, and witnessed great accumulations, transformations and developments that were not accompanied by a critical movement parallel to the volume of creativity. The beholder of the short story criticism movement realizes that there were critical attempts that published in several Saudi newspapers and magazines, including the cultural magazine affiliated with the Saudi Al-Jazirah newspaper. The reader of the magazine perceives that there is a critical movement towards the Saudi short story that began with the first issues of the magazine and is still going on until now, and its numbers have approached seven hundred issues.

This critical movement in the magazine is noteworthy, considering its nature, its historical interaction with the Saudi narrative text, its waiting horizon, the critical mechanisms it adopted in its interaction with the text, and the patterns it followed in reading the Saudi short story text.
