Abstract

This research is concerned with the semantics of words and their connection to the exegesis of the Holy Quran, which takes on a dimension that cannot be overlooked or ignored, namely the religious or legal dimension. It is a complex dimension that requires all of us to stand on some of its main features, and to determine the difference between the task of the linguist and the task of the exegete, while recalling some of the overlooked data, and clarifying some concepts related to approaches and objectives and reminding of their importance.

The research adopted the descriptive approach, with the help of the comparative approach, to reach the targeted results, the most important of which were: The research determined that everything said in the field of phonetic meaning by al-Khalīl, sybwyhi, Ibn jnnī and others are based on personal thoughts and psychological suggestions, and this thought has no basis to be built upon, hence the difference regarding phonetic meaning. The research revealed the reasons related to the semantics of words and their effect on the difference in exegeses, the research also identified some of the reasons for the semantic deviation in the interpretation of the verses of the Holy Qur’an resulting from immersion in philosophical and logical theories or sectarian tendencies or otherwise.

The research recommends paying more attention to the study of the semantics of words from this interdisciplinary aspect, and identifying semantic deviations, whether related to semantics, the syntactic, or sharia.
