Ibn Malik: The "zhahiri" of Grammar
Keywords:
Ibn Malik, Arabic grammar, the explicitness doctrine, interpretationAbstract
The current research paper tackles the question of adopting Explicitness ((alzahir: phenomenology) in Arabic grammar. This issue has not received adequate theoretical study, albeit its utilization by many scholars in forming their positions, directives and perspectives. The researcher studies this question in the works of a pioneering grammarian, Abu abdallah Muhammad bin abdallah Ibn malek, Jamal aldeen, altaaie, aljyani (672 A.H). The phenomenological orientation is attested in Imam alshaTebi’s words about Ibn Malek, in the course of explaining Ibn Malek’s work known as Alalfiyah, "particularly because Ibn Malek demonstrates explicitness, most of the time, in what he writes in his books".
This research deals with explicitness in the works of Arabic grammarians, starting from introducing the concept of explicitness in language, and in the works of Fuqaha’ (Jurisprudents) and grammarians. Then Ibn malek is explained through his being influenced by explicitness and the specific areas where this doctrine is applied, his perspective of using explicitness, and the literature he utilized in adopting this doctrine.
This research is conducted in accordance with the inductive descriptive method, taking the analysis as a means to achieve the desired goals.
