Abstract

Research Topic: This research focuses on the interpretation provided by Al-Abadhi of Sibawayh's texts in his commentary on Al-Jazooliyyah.
The research aims to examine the instances of Sibawayh's texts that Al-Abadhi interpreted in his commentary on Al-Jazooliyyah, explore the reasons that led him to interpret Sibawayh's statements, clarify the ambiguities in them, the potential implications of misunderstanding them, and analyze Al-Abadhi's stance towards Sibawayh's opinion after interpreting his words.

Findings: The research highlighted the high regard Al-Abadhi had for the great scholar Sibawayh, as evidenced by his attention to analyzing his statements, striving to understand his intentions, and uncovering the true meaning of his views. Several reasons are identified for Al-Abadhi's interpretation of Sibawayh's texts, including clarifying the statement to prevent misinterpretation, addressing opinions held by grammarians, rejecting some views attributed to Sibawayh, and critiquing his wording. It was also revealed that one of the main reasons for the disagreements among grammarians in understanding Sibawayh’s text was the ambiguity in his phrasing, which led to varying interpretations. Al-Abadhi’s approach was that any ambiguous statements should be interpreted according to the most accurate possible meaning. He often sided with Sibawayh’s opinions in most cases, although he occasionally criticized or disagreed with him on a few minor points.
