Rulling of Eid Prayer at Home because of Coronavirus Curfew

Abstract

       The greatest objectives of Eid Prayer in Islam are to demonstrate the Islamic rituals, and to praise Allah for his graces of good deeds that is done.

-     The scholars have disagreed on the ruling of Eid prayer at home -as a time of coronavirus curfew- and the origin of the disagreement is the obligatory of the conditions of Eid prayer such as: number of people, settlement, and the ruler’s permission, and is it as conditions of Jumu'ah prayer or not. and the chosen view-Allah knows best- is that conditions of number and settlement and ruler’s permission are not obligatory for the Eid prayer, and it’s for all Muslim even if they settlers or traveller, nomadic people and far countryside people. Consequently, it’s permissible for all Muslims - at quarantine time - performing the Eid prayer at home alone or in Jama'ah, whether they are settlers or traveler, within ruler’s permission or not.

-     The fiqhi exegesis for the issue has two cases:

1- If the Eid prayer is performed as what happened in Mecca and Madinah in the pandemic; the issue’s exegesis is as “Qād’a” (making up the missed prayer) for who miss the Eid prayer with the imam, and the chosen opinion is to perform the prayer in home Because of the narrations from Anās (RA) and general fiqhi origin in “Qād’a” of missed worships.

2- If the prayer is not performed in public, which is a new case, then the chosen opinion will be to exegete this issue as Eid prayer for women and traveler: who are not obligated to perform it in public basically.
