Abstract

This study aims to identify the code of ethics in medicine, through exploring the books of physicians classes, especially "Sources of Information in the Classes of Physicians" by Muwafaq Al-Din ibn Abi Al-Abbas known as the Ibn Abi Ussaibe’ah (d. 686 AH).

This research comes in the context of the ethical challenges facing the medical profession at present, especially after major advances in medicine, medical processes and genetic engineering, in addition to the predominance of materialism on the practices of many physicians today. This motivates us to explore our Islamic sources and heritage to highlight the moral perspective of the profession of medicine in Islam. It also aims to unravel the Islamic treasure troves of knowledge and methodology to extract the ethics and values from the reservoir of our culture and civilization.

This is an analytical study that focuses on the ethical issues in the medical profession which includes the ethical formation of physicians and their implementation of their professional ethical code individually and with patients and society. The study used the integrated approach which includes the historical and analytical approaches. The former is used because we are dealing with a historical document of the Islamic heritage. I have read the whole book to analyze all the biographies of physicians precisely. I then extracted the relevant topics from biographies. The research includes an introduction, a preface, four chapters, a conclusion, and indexes
