The answer to the problems related to the Pledge’s verse: A nodal study

Abstract

This research aims to clarify the meanings contained in the covenant mentioned in the verse of Surat Al-A'raf; and also find out its related complexity and give a solution to it. And therefore, it came in response to the following questions:

  1. What is meant by the covenant mentioned in the noble verse?
  2. How authentic are the narrations that describe the meaning of the noble verse?
  3. Are the authentic narrations in the interpretation of the verse in line with the context of the noble verse?
  4. Are the authentic narrations in the interpretation of the verse in conformity with each other in describing the meaning?
  5. How can the Covenant be binding despite that people don’t remember it?
  6. Was the Covenant in form of circumstance or wording?
  7. What is the relationship between the Covenant and Fitra (the inherent desire to worship Allah)?

The topics discussed in the research were as follows:

  1. Definition of the Covenant and pieces of evidence of the Covenant are mentioned in the Qur'an.
  2. The narrations featured in explaining the meanings of the verse.
  3. Scholarly sayings about the meaning of the noble verse.
  4. The overall finding of the research was affirming the Covenant which was brought forth on the children of Adam. And that it does not contradict with the Islamic law and intellectual evidence.

And it is Allah who bestows success.
