Abstract

This research deals with a well-known custom among the people of the deserts that includes a creedal deviation. It is known to some ordinary people as hedging (Alttahwit) to immunize against the jinn. The research defined hedging (Alttahwit), explained its relationship to the faith, then outlined the roots of this belief, responded to the suspicions that they cling to, and revealed the legal means used to protect themselves from the jinn.

The research concluded that the hedging (Alttahwit ) that is taken to ward off the harm of the jinn is one of the innovations (Bidʻah) that undermine the sound belief and the right approach. in addtion, in its origin goes back to the beliefs of the Arabs in the pre-Islamic era and that all texts inferred on the hedging (Alttahwit ) are not valid, and assuming its validity there is no evidence of the effectiveness of the hedging (Alttahwit) that the ordinary people do. There are legitimate ways to protect themselves from the jinn that stipulated in many authentic texts.
