Abstract:
This study addresses the hadiths related to the virtues of the noble Companion Mu'awiya Ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him). The research provides:
- A brief biography of Mu'awiya, including his name, kunya (agnomen), birth, conversion to Islam, companionship with the Prophet, narrations, military efforts, governance, and death.
- An exploration of general Quranic and Prophetic texts regarding the virtues of the Companions, which encompass Mu'awiya (may Allah be pleased with him).
- A detailed analysis of specific hadiths on Mu'awiya's virtues, totaling twelve narrations and reports.
- Among these, three hadiths are classified as authentic (sahih), narrated by Ibn Abbas, Abdul Rahman Ibn Umayra, and Al-Irbad Ibn Sariya (may Allah be pleased with them).
- One hadith has a good chain (hasan), narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).
- Three narrations are considered sound but mursal (with a missing link in the chain), from Shurayh Ibn Ubayd, Hariz Ibn Uthman al-Rahbi, and Yahya Ibn Sa'id (may Allah have mercy on them).
- One narration has a weak chain, from Maslama Ibn Mukhallad.
- Four narrations are extremely weak, from Abdul Malik Ibn Umayr, Abu Huraira, Aisha, and Umayr Ibn Sa'd.
- The study concludes that seven of these narrations and reports are acceptable (either sahih or hasan).
- Additionally, it affirms that the hadiths regarding the virtues of Mu'awiya have reached the level of widespread recognition and corroboration, with validation from a number of early and later hadith scholars, all of whom are cited in the study. Allah knows best. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions
