Abstract:
This research aims to study the issue of the "Seven Ahruf" and related matters through Tafsir (Qur'anic exegesis) works, presenting and analyzing these topics in a foundational manner.
The researcher arrived at several key findings, among the most important are:
- Some early scholars of Tafsir recorded issues related to Qirāʾāt (variant readings) and its sciences in their commentaries from an early period.
- The approach of commentators in addressing the issue of the Seven Ahruf varied; some gave it more attention than others, while some were moderate in their engagement.
- Those commentators who did address the issue of the Seven Ahruf or related matters concerning Qirāʾāt did not do so comprehensively; rather, they selectively mentioned some of the issues.
- There is evidence that some commentators were influenced by others in the topics and issues they included in their commentaries, resulting in agreement on the presentation and study of these matters.
- The most commonly addressed topics in Tafsir works were the Seven Ahruf, along with related matters such as dialects and linguistic variations, some issues of Uthmanic script (rasm), mentions of prominent Qurʾān reciters, and matters concerning stopping and resuming recitation, among others.
