Abstract
This research investigates the jurisprudential rulings concerning the moral trait of suspicion (su’ al-zann), and the related conditions and restrictions, examining them through a comparative fiqh approach. The study surveys the opinions of jurists, their evidence, and arguments, while evaluating and weighing the stronger positions.
The research aims to clarify several rulings connected to su’ al-zann, including: the general ruling on harboring suspicion; suspicion directed toward Muslims, non-Muslims, or open sinners; the parameters established by jurists regarding prohibited suspicion; the ruling on harboring suspicion toward a beggar who outwardly appears wealthy; the ruling on saying, “the people are ruined”; suspicion concerning speech whose outward meaning is good; and the ruling on taking precautions against suspicion.
The structure of the study consists of an introduction, a prelude, two main chapters, and a conclusion: Chapter One addresses the ruling on suspicion and its regulations; Chapter Two examines specific rulings related to suspicion.
