Abstract

This research discusses shredding and recycling the papers of Mus´haf (Quran copy). Recently, new methods have been used to shred the papers of Mus´haf in accordance with industrial progress and the development of technological methods for shredding paper. Moreover, it has become possible to benefit from the papers by recycling them and converting them into new sheets of paper that can be reused after removing the writing and inks. The research concludes that it is permissible to shred Mus´haf papers using modern machines, provided that there is nothing left of the Quranic text and ornamentations. Furthermore, the shredding should involve all letters and words and should be done by a Muslim person using this machine. With regard to recycling, it is permissible if it is limited to what remains from paper shredding.
