Abstract

This research is an objective study of the hadiths of shade (Al-Zhill and Al-Fay') related to jurisprudential provisions. It distinguishes between Al-Zhill (ante- and post meridiem) and Al-Fay' (post meridiem). The research shows that the shade is one of Allah's blessings. In addition, it examines the texts of Quran and Sunnah about Al-Zhill and Al-Fay' and their relation to the determination of prayer times such as Al-Zhuhr, Al-`ASr, Al-Jum`ah and the prohibited times. The research also examines the provisions related to sitting between sun and shade considering it disapproved in general and prohibited in relieving oneself in the shades of others.

Thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, peace and blessings of Allah be upon our prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his companions.
