Transformational leadership and its Relation to Knowledge Sharing Behavior among Faculty Members in the Faculties of Science and Literature at Qassim University

Abstract

The present study aimed to uncover the degree of which transformational leadership is practiced by the academic leaders, and to measure the cognitive sharing behavior level among faculty members in the faculties of science and literature at Qassim University. It also aimed to identify the nature of the relationship between transformational leadership and cognitive sharing behavior. Questionnaire was utilized as a research instrument for data collection, it was applied to a sample of (214) members and academic leaders from (12) faculty of sciences and literature at Qassim University. The sample size was (28.6 percent) from the study population, using the stratified random technique.

The study found that the degree of which transformational leadership was practiced among the academic leaders in the faculties of science and literature at Qassim University from the perspective of the study sample members was medium. The most practiced dimension was the "ideal effect", however, the least practiced dimension was "intellectual stimulation" The results of the study, also, showed that there is a positive correlation between the transformational leadership and the cognitive sharing behavior.

The study recommends that it is vital to activate the role of academic leaders in transforming knowledge into a competitive advantage to the university by employing the dimensions of transformational leadership to enhance knowledge, attitudes and skills of knowledge sharing among faculty members, provide a supportive environment for trust and  stimulate a positive trend towards knowledge sharing behavior.
