Abstract

This study examines the demographic dividends concept, a term which means the momentous increase in the working age population (15-64 years), the decrease in the number of dependents (children under the age of 15), and the elderly (65 years and over) among Saudi citizens. The objectives of the study are to measure some population indicators related to the concept, and to demonstrate the socio-economic opportunities that can be achieved, especially in the 2030 vision . The study is based mainly on censuses and official surveys carried out by the Saudi Arabia in recent years, in addition to vision 2030. The study pointed out that the Kingdom has entered the stage of the demographic window that could generate socio-economic benefits if it is well planned. The study also warned about the negative consequences if the country missed the optimal utilization of such opportunity. In order not to miss these opportunities, sound policies should be implemented and included in education and curricula. The study contributes to the ongoing debate and enriches the Arabic library with relevant literature and open chances for further studies.
