Abstract

This study purpose to know the characteristics of girls who smoke and the social and economic factors that lead to the spread of smoking among girls in Saudi society. And about the most common types of smoking among girls. This study relied on the observation and interview tool for a deliberate non-probability sample (10) of girls' smokers in cafes. The study reached a number of results: The most important of them are: The average age of smoker's ranges between (19-21) and the number of daily cigarettes is from (5-6). Daily cigarette smoking with increasing number of years. The majority of the sample are smokers without the parents knowing about it, and they prefer cafes and public places to smoke.

The feeling of freedom, independence, and equality between the young man and the girl and not obeying the customs and traditions of society are among the most important factors that helped smoking, as well as the influence of friends and a sense of pleasure and ventilation, followed by escape from family pressures and academic pressures.

On the economic factors: the study showed that there is a positive relationship between increasing the income of a girl and smoking. And on the types of cigarettes that are widespread among some girls who smoke electronic hookah, because they think that it is lighter in nicotine, less harmful and has a distinctive smell. This study recommends conducting more future research on the harm and increasing community awareness of using different types of cigarettes.
