Abstract

This study aims at monitoring and describing the changes in demographic data of the elderly (60 years and over) in the regions of KSA within 19 years through the knowledge of their numbers and geographical distribution in the regions of KSA. It aims at trying to forecast their future numbers until 2050.

The study relied on the annual statistical books issued by the General Authority for Statistics (1999, 2018) as a source of data and statistical methods. It used the spectrum program for Population Projections.

The finding showed that the evolution of elderly people in 1999 from 857,564  to 1,836,716 in 2018, and their geographical distribution varied among the regions of KSA. Where (55.7%) lived in Makkah and Riyadh regions, about (32.3%) in Asir, Medina, Jazan, and Eastern regions, and about (12%) in the remaining regions.     It is expected that they will constitute a third of the population of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (about 15 million people) in 2050.
