Biometric Analysis of Theses and Dissertation in the Department of Psychology at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University from the year (2011-2020) and proposals for its development.

Abstract

The present study has aimed at Identifying the characteristics researchers of the "demographic" study of holders of master's and doctoral degrees in counseling, social psychology and personality) in the Department of Psychology at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University during the educational period 2011-2020. And the methodological characteristics of these theses and doctoral Dissertation. in terms of the type of study, the method used, the tools, the sample, its size, the target group, the place of its application, its classification according to the theories, the identification of the areas of professional practice used, the category applied to it, and the recommendations it reached, And check the psychometric properties of the scale. To achieve the objectives of the study, the content analysis tool was used, following the descriptive analytical approach (content analysis), and the forward-looking approach. The study sample consisted of (n = 195) master's Theses and Dissertation doctoral PhD The researcher standardized the study tool (content analysis card).

The results showed the diversity of theses according to the scientific degree. As the number of theses approved for obtaining a master’s degree reached (67.2%).  And most of these were approved in the year (2020) by (13.8%). The results of the study showed that most masters theses and doctoral theses were obtained by females compared to males. And in terms of the method, masters theses used the descriptive approach (correlative, comparative) and the experimental (semi-experimental) approach for doctoral Dissertation. Also, most of the master's theses were applied to adolescents, children, and university students, while doctoral Dissertations were applied to auditors of psychiatric clinics and people with mental disorders.

The methods of selecting the sample varied in master's theses, which depended on the random sample with its different categories. And the intentional sample of Doctoral Dissertation. Master's theses mostly used inferential (simple) statistical methods, while doctoral Dissertation used nonparametric statistical methods. In terms of clarity of applied and methodological procedures, masters theses were compared to doctoral Dissertation. and the majority of master’s theses were classified within the psychological school, while doctoral theses were classified within the therapeutic approach. , And masters theses and doctoral Dissertation coincided with the fourth priority of research priorities dealing with mental disorders. In light of the results, the study recommended several recommendations, the most important of which are: conducting more studies in various fields, directing the scientific theses in the department to comply with first the research, and the strategic plan of the university and college.
