Abstract

Saudi-American relations during Egypt's nationalization of the Suez Canal in 1956 played a major role in the course of events at that time. Saudi Arabia has utilized these relations to direct the policy of the United States of America to adopt its stance in managing this crisis, take a more moderate one in line with the Saudi perception, and preserve Egypt's inalienable right to manage the affairs of the canal. The Kingdom pressured the American side and addressed all Western attempts that sought to internationalize the canal. This eventually led the United States to be satisfied with the Saudi vision after it realized that its relations with the Kingdom as a major strategic ally in the region would be at risk and that serious damage would befall its interests if it lost this major ally. This ultimately led to Egypt's success in nationalizing the Suez Canal.
