Abstract

This research paper aims to  reveal Aldarbawih youth culture in originating criminal behavior through car drifting activities in Riyadh city, Saudi Arabia. It uses a socio-anthropological ethnographic approach together with a semi-structured interview as an instrument with  (40) informants. It also utilizes non- participant observation with content analysis of pictures of Aldarbawih youth.

The findings show that the age groups of Aldarbawih range between seventeen and forty years of age. Aldarbawih’s level of education is lower than secondary school, most of them are unemployed and live in low class quarters. The findings also show that they wear Saudi Arabian clothes such as Thoub and Shmakh, which means”Ghutrah” and Aldarbawih have typical attire and shoes named Alzibrewiyah. They have their particular kinds of Lemon juice which is hot feezy drink such as Miranda & Bajh seeds, and their favorite food is kabsah which means rice with meat or chicken. As for types of vehicles, they are Nissan Datsun, Nissan jeep “ called Fatk”, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Land Cruiser “called Haddad”, and old vehicles likes Nissan J.t, Z.X. Aldarbawih modify the vehicles they use to publicize their drifting aliases on the rear end of their vehicles and turn the volume up on their car system stereos. Drifters also intentionally damage or extract the exhaust pipes from the vehicles in order to raise the roar of the vehicle's engine, and they also change the vehicles color and write innovated graffiti and terminology used by Aldarbawih on vehicles such as characters “symbols” put on the back of their cars such as  their tribes-like name.

The findings also reveal that the types of Aldarbawih are: Al-Hajwalah “drifters who drift from side to side”, Alastaradh “demonstration”, Altafheet” drifting”, Altavjeer “tire scorching”, Aldaim “crushing by car”, Altakmees “Acrobatic reckless”, Aldafan “cover grit”, and Alkhobah “type of drifting”.

Research has found out that there are  several harms caused by Aldarbawih through car drifting activities which are strongly linked to anti-social behavior including: committing  moral crime, attempting to distribute, and using different kinds of drugs, carrying and selling weapons, and using them against others, throwing stones, beating with sticks and squandering money. Furthermore, car drifting activities provide opportunities for robbery and thefts to support drifters who are broke. It is found that they cause harm to other drivers, passengers, audience as well as cases of death; the implication of the damage has also extended to the public and to buildings.
