This study aims to reveal the prevalence of nomophobia in the city of Riyadh among undergraduate students and their geographical distribution in the neighborhoods of Riyadh. In addition, the study investigates the differences between students infected with nomophobia and their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, besides the differences between infected students suffering from organic and psychological diseases and disorders, employing the Yildirim scale according to the Arabic translation of Al-Akour (2017). The study includes a sample of 254 undergraduate students, both male and female, in a public university located in Riyadh for the first semester of the academic year 1444 AH.
The results concluded that the incidence of nomophobia infections increased to 70.1%, and the proportion of infected people in the neighborhoods in the west of Riyadh was 70.8%, compared to a decrease of 67.6% in the neighborhoods south of Riyadh. The study also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between infected students and their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. There were also no statistically significant differences between infected students and the organic and psychological diseases.
The study recommended raising awareness among university students of the risks of the growing incidence of nomophobia.
