Healthy Lifestyle and its Relationship to Psychological Health among Umm Al-Qura University Female Students

Abstract

This study aims at revealing the rate of occurrence of healthy lifestyle among Umm al-Qura University female students in Makkah, examining the relationship between healthy lifestyle and psychological  health, and  investigating the differences in students' healthy lifestyle in relation to their academic achievement. The sample of the study consisted of (657) female students aged between (18-27). The Healthy lifestyle Scale and DASS mental health scale to measure depression, anxiety and psychological stress were used.

The study found that the percentage of healthy lifestyle among students is low. (20.2%) of students engage in physical activity, (19%) contribute socially, (15.5%) care for entertainment and stress management, (14.8%) ensure good nutrition, (14.5%) enjoy nature, (12.6%) care for the spiritual aspects of life, and (12.2)  ensure supportive social relationships. The study also found a significant inverse relationship between healthy lifestyle and psychological health disorders. Significant differences were found in the level of healthy lifestyle in favor of students with higher academic achievement.
