Stressful Life Situations and Their Relationship to Depression and Marital Satisfaction among Female Married Administrators at Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University

Abstract

The current study aims to examine the kind of correlation between stressful life situations and each of depression and marital satisfaction among married female administrators at Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. The study also conducts comparisons among the study sample participants in relation to all the study variables, which are: stressful life situations, depression, and marital satisfaction, in light of both variables of the number of years of marital experience and the socio-economic status level (high/low). It is worth mentioning that those who have been previously married and those who have no children are excluded from the final study sample. The research problem is formulated in the following questions: 1. What kind of correlation exists between stressful life situations and depression among female married administrators at Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh? 2. What kind of correlation exists between stressful life situations and marital satisfaction among female married administrators at Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh? 3. Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in stressful life situations regarding the variable concerning the number of years of marital experience? 4. Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in stressful life situations according to the socio-economic status level? 5. Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in depression according to the variable concerning the number of years of marital experience? 6. Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in depression according to the variable of socio-economic status level (high/low)? 7. Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in marital satisfaction according to the variable concerning the number of years of marital experience? Are there differences among the study sample subgroups in marital satisfaction according to socio-economic status level (high/low)? A comparative descriptive approach is used in this study. After analyzing the data statistically, the study indicates a number of results. First, it shows a positive correlation and statistically significant relationship between stressful life situations and depression among female married administrators of the present study sample. Second, it shows a negative correlation and a statistically significant relationship between stressful life situations and marital satisfaction among female married administrators of the present study sample at Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.
