Self-disclosure and Its Relation to both Social Support and Control Locus among Male and Female Students of Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University

The current study aimed at examining self-disclosure and its relationship to social support and locus of control among male and female students of Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic Universityin RiyadhCity. In order to collect the study data and to test its hypotheses, the descriptive correlational method was used. As well as, the random stratified sampling procedure was used to select the study sample, where six hundred (N=600) male and female students were recruited. The Scale of Self-disclosure, Social Support Scale and the Scale of Locus of Control together with the Inventory of Social-economic Status were used as the study tools after being checked for their validity and reliability.The study findings indicated a positive and significant relationship between self-disclosure and social support, and a negative significant relationship between self-disclosure and external locus of control among the study sample. The results showed that gender and academic level were of a significant impact on self-disclosure, where female students and older students tended to speak more about themselves. Finally, discussion of the findings of the current study was provided together with the recommendations arising from those findings.
