The Relationship between Using the Internet and some Personality Characteristics in Light of Some Variables among Sample Students at King Saud University
Abstract
This study aims to discover the personality traits of internet users among Teachers College students, and the relation between these traits and internet usage in light of some other variables, and what is the impact of Internet use on some activities of daily living for the student. The study sample consisted of 170 undergrad students at the Teachers College. The researcher used the personality traits scale devised by Goldberg, L. R. in 1992, which contains 50 items. The results indicated that the most prevalent personality traits in descending order were as follows: (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, openness). It was also found that there does not exist a statistically significant difference between hours of internet use and personality trait factors. Internet usage was found to be over 1-2 hours per day for 30% of the sample, and below 1 hour for 12.4% of the sample, and over 6 hours of use per day was reported by 15.3% of the sample.
