The motives of Saudi University Youth to use social network sites on Internet and achieved satisfactions: A field study at King Saud University students in the second quarter of the year 1433 AH

Abstract

This study aimed to recognize the motives of Saudi University Youth to use social communication sites on Internet and achieved satisfactions; recognize use habits and intensity and effect of that on their evaluation of social communication sites positives and negatives.

The study depended on the questionnaire as a tool of collecting data, it was taken with random sample method to choose 5% from the total of preparatory year students in King Saud University with a rate of (470) students.

That more than 85% of study sample use social network and that 88% of respondents spend between one hour to less than two hours in using social networks, and that the most commonly social network used by the students – Study Sample –is twitter network, where more than 61% of them have declared that they use it usually or sometimes, compared to more than 57% use Facebook.

That (get news, know the most prominent global political issues, findevents and celebrations) came at the top of respondents motives for using social networks, followed by reasons and motives related to contacting and communicating with the others. The positive trend is mostly among respondents toward social networks effects.
