Abstract

This research is intended to identify the most important situations of linguistic communication encountered by linguistically-talented Arabic language learners, so as to analyse their linguistic needs and tasks and propose an appropriate unit. To accomplish this, the researcher has designed two questionnaires: one related to the linguistic communication situations, and the other to linguistic needs. This is followed by the production of a paper that analyses the linguistic tasks of the linguistically-talented students. Regarding the conclusion the researcher reached, a vision was developed to propose a three-lesson unit, each of which ends with an exam, and then concludes the unit with a comprehensive exam.

The following five points are the most important achievements the research intends to accomplish:

  1. Specifying the situations of linguistic communication which are encountered by linguistically-talented students;
  2. Identifying the students’ linguistic needs;
  3. Absence of statistically-significant differences between the average marks of both the students and teachers in the two questionnaires (namely, the linguistic communication situations, and the linguistic needs);
  4. Determining the linguistic tasks that assist in meeting the students’ language communication needs in linguistic communication situations;
  5. Proposing a vision of a unit to meet some of the linguistic needs of linguistically-talented Arabic language learners.
