Problems Facing Preparatory Programs Students at Al-Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud Islamic University from their Point of View: A Field Study

Abstract

This study aimed to know the administrative, academic, psychological, and social problems facing the students of preparatory programs at Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic university and the relationships  between these problems and the variables of learning process. However, the study also proposed a conception to reduce the perception of these problems.The study used the descriptive survey methodology and applied a questionnaire which has been developed  by the researchers on a random sample of (375) students from the deanship of preparatory programs at Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic university.The study showed that the students of preparatory programs are facing problems various fields of study  (administrative, academic, psychological  and social). However, the administrative problems were ranked first, then the psychological and social problems, and finally the academic problems. The study also showed no statistically significant differences between the problems of the students of the practical or humanitarian tracks from their points of view at the significance level of (a=0.05).  However,  the study suggested a model to reduce the problems which face the students of preparatory programs  made a number of recommendations such as:

  • Planning and organizing the work of the academic advising to guide the students and help them to solve their problems and helping them in selecting the appropriate specialization and introducing the best scientific methods that may help them to choose the specialization that suite their abilities, and the best ways of studying and familiarizing them with the college and university system, and providing the psychological counseling services.
  • The importance of establishing a unit of developing the performance of the academic staff of the deanship of preparatory programs to develop their skills in using the modern teaching methods and tests.
  • Providing all the courses before or at the beginning of the academic year , and computerizing the education to enable the students to get their courses electronically.
  • Developing a comprehensive and preventive strategy to prevent the occurrence of administrative, academic, psychological and social problems to the students of the deanship of preparatory programs.
  • Determining a specific time to accept students and joining in the program.
