Rhetorical Efforts in Ibn abi Alrabi`e Al-Sabti's Exegesis (Tafsir)

Abstract

     Researchers have worked hard to present scholars' rhetorical efforts in their exegesis and explanation of the Quran. However, most of the research was done by Levant scholars due to their known reputation and writings in the field of exegesis. Thus, this study highlights a model of efforts exerted by scholars in Andalusia and Maghrib in employing rhetorical arts in explicating the Holy Quran. 

       This study introduces rhetorical questions and efforts exerted by Ibn abi Alrabi`e in exegesis. I decided to reflect on this exegesis and show the rhetorical efforts exerted by the author in his outstanding work. Moreover, I attempted to show how Al-Sabti invested those efforts and used them in his understanding of the Divine sequencing of words. 

       The most significant aims of this study are: to introduce rhetorical questions and works in eloquence exerted by Ibn abi Alrabi`e in the explication of the Quran, revealing his rhetorical personality which appeared through his efforts and showing the Arab Maghrib scholars' method of employing rhetorical arts in their explication of Quran.
