Abstract

This study investigates a renowned issue among ancient scholars in the heritage of rhetoric, which many modern scholars have adopted without investigation or scrutiny, and have taken it for granted. This issue is " rhetoric is always more eloquent than reality"; hence underestimating reality and belittling its role compared to the role of rhetoric speech and value. This study, therefore, aims to deal with this issue in light of what scholars say, and it was, hopefully,  conducted neutrally and objectively. The nature of approaching this topic has made it necessary to divide it into: introduction, two chapters, and conclusion. The introduction discusses the importance of the topic and the reasons for choosing it; the first chapter is entitled: "The Theoretical Part" and it deals with the following points; the first is the investigation of the significance of the reality approach, and its rhetorical value; the second is rhetoric and reality in discourse; the third is the viewpoint of scholars regarding reality and rhetoric in discourse; the fourth is which is the original, reality or rhetoric?; the fifth discusses reality from the point of view of rhetoricians; and the sixth is a comparison between the artistic values of reality and rhetoric approaches. The second chapter is entitled "The Practical Part" and it explores various examples of the Holy Qur'an, Hadith, and Arabic poetry.
