Abstract

Ali Hafiz is one of the poets of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah whose poetry sources are varied. This study addresses one of the most important sources that reflect the characteristics of his personality and the diversity of his culture; that is the Holy Qur’an.

The study aimed at studying the Quranic impact on the poetic experience of Ali Hafiz in terms of form and content.  The study contains an introduction explaining the impact of the Holy Qur’an on language and literature, followed by a brief account of the life of the poet.  In addition, the study addresses the impact of the Holy Qur’an on his poetry according to four different themes; the impact of the Holy Qur’an on meanings and ideas, the impact of the Holy Qur’an on vocabulary and structures, the impact of the Holy Qur’an on the poetic image, and the impact of the Holy Qur’an on the two types of poetic rhythm: the external rhythm (rhyme schemes) and the internal one. For the purpose of this study, the analytical descriptive method is utilized.  Moreover, the results of the study reveals that the impact of the Holy Qur’an was clear on the poet’s meanings and ideas, vocabulary and structures and his poetic rhythm.  However, the impact of the Holy Qur’an on the poetic image proves to be the least. In conclusion, the presence of the Holy Qur’an in the poetry of Ali Hafiz was an important factor that gives it quality in form and strength and richness in content, which serves the poetic experience of the poet.
