Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani wrote many books on men, including “Lisan al-Mizan”, and he attached a chapter to it that lists the names of the narrators for whom he was spoke about them in “Tahtheeb al-Kamal”, and their number is (3557) a narrator, he placed them into three categories:
- trustworthy narrators who spoke about them without an excuse, and he symbol for them with a correction tag (صح).
- Narrators who are a difference between scholars of hadith about them, and the more correct to accept them, and he a symbol for them with (هـ).
- and other than them are weak.
It is an essential division, in which he did not specify their detailed ranks, nor did it mean by saying about the disputed among them “and working on documenting them“, which prompted me to study this chapter an analytical study of its manuscripts known at the time of its composition, study its symbols, and balance his provisions in “Taqreeb al-Tahtheeb” to those narrators who symbolized them with ( هـ ) . I concluded with a number of results, the most important of which is that he composed this chapter before “Taqreeb al-Tahtheeb”, and that the copy attributed to Ibn Qamar from “Lisan al-Mizan” is the copy of al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, and the symbol (صح) an independent opinion from him on the narrators and not a quote from the rulings of al-Thahabi, and that he wants to document For whom he was symbolized with (هـ) what includes the two ranks of al-Sahih and al-Hasan, and that the coding for the books that narrated to the narrator was based on “Tahtheeb al-Kamal” and from here the difference occurred in some narrators with “Taqreeb al-Tahtheeb” which was one of the reasons for which Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar changed the method of coding.
