Abstract

This study deals with the ruling on paying zakat al-Fitr from dates, comparing it with the common variety in people's reality today, which is rice. This research aims to reach the injunction of the law on the issue of paying zakat al-Fitr from date. In addition, the balance between dates and other things that have spread in these times, especially rice, and knowing their amount in contemporary weights. In this research, I have been keen on the methodology used in jurisprudence research in general.

The most important results of this research are:

  1. Transferring consensus on the obligation of zakat Al-Fitr; to say that it is superfluous is an anomaly.
  2. The variety that is paid for zakat al-Fitr from the palm fruit: it is dates, not the rutab.
  3. Transferring consensus on the parts of giving dates in Zakat al-Fitr, some contemporaries disagreed with this, and it appeared through research: that the saying that it is not included in giving dates as zakat al-Fitr is weak.
  4. Contemporaries differed as to which is better to pay for Zakat Al-Fitr; dates or rice. According to two views: and it appeared to me through a comparison between them that dates are better for several reasons: it was mentioned in the text, and there is consensus on it from the previous jurists..
  5.  The required amount of dates are (Saa' of dates) by consensus, and whoever takes 3 kilograms of any kind of dates, he takes the obligation with certainty, if Allah wills.
