Abstract

The issue of the science of guiding the Qur'an readings is one of the most important scholarly issues. It shows the extent of the eloquence of the words, reveals the meanings of the words and the reasons for use, and clarifies the accuracy of interpretation. This indicates the importance and preference of this science, which motivated me to contribute to the field of this glorious art, so I sought help from God to study this science through the great work of interpretation of the Qur’an (Tafsîr) by Imam IBN ARAFA. The research concluded some results, the most important of which are as follows:

1-   In his great work of interpretation of the Qur’an (Tafsîr), Imam IBN ARAFA has mentioned several Quranic readings, most of which are continuously recurrent, and some of them are rare.

2-   Most of the readings that IBN ARAFA has mentioned in his interpretation of the Qur’an (Tafsîr) are mentioned with guidance, and a few of them are mentioned without guidance.

3-   In his work of interpretation of the Qur’an (Tafsîr), Imam IBN ARAFA did not mention the narrator and did not attribute the Qur'an readings to its author most of the time, even if he mentioned some of the readings with attribution other times.

4-   It appeared to me from his approach to guidance that he has given preference in some cases, but he, most likely, tends not to give preference.

5-   Imam IBN ARAFA tracked three imams concerning the science of guiding the Qur'an readings, and they are AL-ZAMAKHSHARI, IBN ATTIA, and ABU HAYYAN.

6-   In his work of interpretation of the Qur’an (Tafsîr), Imam IBN ARAFA relied on the seven readings only, and he did not address the other three readings except in two places only.

7-   Imam IBN ARAFA did not elaborate much in his explanation of the guidance of the Qur'an readings, and he did not go on to mention other than the scholars related to the guidance.
