Aspects of Sincerity in the Light of Surat Az-Zumar
Abstract
The Holy Qur'an has elevated the human soul to the highest status. It has also reformed and purified their souls from impurities and corruptions. It has linked their souls with their Creator, as a compliance with His righteous order, in words, deeds, and belief. The Holy Qur'an has emphasized that the acceptance of deeds is conditioned by sincerity to Allah, as no deeds will be accepted except those are performed for the sake of Him, and according to the Sunnah of the prophet (peace be upon him).
Therefore, Qur'anic verses have called for (sincerity) to Allah, the exalted, and warned against what might contradict, diminish, or degrade that noble aim and substantial base. Thus, this study addresses surat (az-Zumar) that has stressed on the issue of (sincerity to Allah). The prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite this Sura at night because it stresses on this essential principle and gives it great attention.
This great Sura has a high status due to its profound influence on the hearts. It awakens the hearts and arouses fear from Allah, the Knower of the unseen. For its great meanings, facts, exhortations, and lessons. The core of the Sura is (sincerity to Allah), which the Sura has addressed in different ways: direct command, forbidding people from going against it, giving a logical parable for comparison and contrast, emphasizing the concept and value of sincerity, referring to what might motivate people to achieve it, such as meditating and contemplation about His universe, or other ways of confirming this noble value. This emphasizes the importance of sincerity and its presence in our hearts as well as being our guide in all aspects of our life.
