Abstract

The research aims to investigate the efficacy of using (KWL) strategy in the development of higher-order thinking skills in the Hadeeth and Seerah Curriculum (Traditions and Biography of the Prophet) among the female students of Grade 6 in Riyadh. The quasi- experimental design with two groups was used. Two classes of 6th grade from the 346 primary school in Riyadh were selected randomly to achieve this goal. The study was conducted in the first semester of the academic year (1436 AH) on a sample of 60 female students from the sixth grade. They were divided into two groups, 30 each. The experimental group was taught by the (KWL) strategy, while the control group was taught through the traditional method. Several statistical calculations were carried out including: T-Test, the Spearman -Brown split half test, Eta. The pre-test of achievement in Hadeeth and Seerah curriculum was applied on the two groups, then the (KWL) strategy was used with the experimental group. Finally, the post-test was applied on both research groups and conclusions were drawn and interpreted. The results revealed that:

  • - There is a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.01) between the mean scores of students in the experimental group and the control group in the post-test of higher-order thinking skills (analysis, synthesis, evaluation) in favor of the experimental group.
  • - There is a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental group students on the pre and post –test of higher-order thinking skills (analysis, synthesis, evaluation) in favor of the post-test.

Findings of the study indicate the efficacy of (KWL) strategy in the development of higher-order thinking skills in the Hadeeth and Seerah Curriculum (Biography of the Prophet). In the light of these results, the study presented a number of recommendations including: Training the Islamic Sharia sciences teachers on  strategies that develop thinking skills like (K-W-L) strategy.
