Developing the Performance of Departments Vice Chairs in King Saud University Based on the Management By Walking Around Approach

Abstract

The study aims to improve the performance of departments vice chairs at King Saud University (KSU) through applying the Management By Walking Around approach (MBWA).  The researcher uses the descriptive survey approach by conducting a survey on (62) participants.

The main results are as follows:

Most of the participants practice the MBWA once a week, which is sometimes planned or sudden.

The most visited places are the exam rooms and the secretaries’ offices. However, the least visited are the labs, library, faculty offices, and the meeting rooms.

The most tools used are listening, understanding, and managing speeches.

The MBWA approach used are: good communications, help in decision making, improvement and incentive, and follow up and feedback.

The degree of practicing the MBWA is moderate.

The most noticeable obstacles are shortage of time and training.

The study ended with some suggestions to improve the way participants practice the MBWA approach.
