Academic Problems That Affect Najran University Students’ Achievement in the Light of Gender and College Variables According to Students

The present study aims at identifying the academic problems that affect students’ achievement in the light of gender and college variables. The sample of the study is 852 students selected from 14 different colleges of Najran University. The method of the study is descriptive. The author has prepared a questionnaire consisting of 32 items whose validity and reliability have been checked. The results of the study reveal the most significant academic problems as follows: high price of textbooks, extensive content of courses, difficulty of the content, many courses and tasks in each semester, courses are more theoretical, methods of teaching are traditional, low level of motivating and reinforcing students, some teachers have difficulties in conveying knowledge, teachers do not give high marks to students, attention is not paid to the individual differences in tests, no cram classes given before final tests to revise and study, some questions of tests are irrelevant, tests are not valid, no guidelines about studying at universities. Furthermore, it is found that there is no significant difference that indicate the effect of academic problems on Najran University students’ achievement in students’ views based on gender and college variables. Finally, based on the results, the study suggests relevant recommendations.
