Extent to which the standards of governance are applied at King Khalid University (KKU) in the light of higher education code of governance in the UK, from the viewpoint of the academic leaders

Abstract

This study aims at studying the extent to which the standards of governance are applied at King Khalid University (KKU) and identifying the requirements for developing the standards of governance at KKU in the light of higher education code of governance in the UK, from the viewpoint of the academic leaders.

Main Findings:

  1. The degree of application of governance standards at KKU, given the higher education code of governance in the UK, was average.
  2. There was a consensus on the requirements for developing the governance standards at KKU, given the higher education code of governance in the UK and according to standards applied in the UK universities.

Recommendations:

  1. Focusing on the activation of the governance standards with all its aspects at KKU.
  2. Raising the University staff’s awareness of the importance of governance standards, given the higher education code of governance in the UK.
  3. Forming an independent Board of Trustees, composed of the university’s employees and stakeholders and concerned with the application of governance standards.
  4. Ensuring the empowering of the Board of Trustees together with the Rector.
