Principles of Governance in Saudi Universities: Application Status and approaches of Consolidation

Abstract

The paper aims to identify the application, obstacles and methods of enhancing the principles of governance in Saudi state universities. It also explores whether there are statistically significant differences attributed to variables of occupation, gender, years of experience, and university.    The descriptive approach is used with a population of (444) academic leaders and teaching staff at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, King Abdulaziz University, Islamic University, and Najran (297 male and 147 female). The important findings include the following: The themes of organizational efficiency and fairness followed the application of governance in Saudi government universities with means of (3.39) and (3.22). The main obstacles of governance was the administrative centralization of the top leadership, the large number of confidential procedures, and the lack of awareness (3.40).The approaches to strengthen governance in Saudi government universities scored an average of (3.76).
