Utilizing the Kagan Structures Strategy in Acquiring Orthographic Concepts and Developing Orthographic Writing Skills among Non-Native Learners of the Arabic Language

Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the effect of utilizing the Kagan Structures strategy on developing orthographic concepts and writing skills among non-native learners of the Arabic language. The research sample consisted of (64) students from the second level of the language preparation program, who were randomly selected. To achieve this goal, the researcher prepared a test to evaluate the orthographic concepts, a test to evaluate orthographic skills, a proposed program based on utilizing Kagan structures strategy in teaching orthography, and applied them to the research sample. The results of the study showed that the presence of statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups in the pre and post-tests for evaluating the orthographic concepts and orthographic skills in favour of the experimental group, and statistically significant differences between the pre and post-tests for evaluating the orthographic concepts and orthographic skills of the students in the experimental group in favour of the post-tests due to the utilization of the Kagan structures strategy. In light of these results, the researcher proposed some recommendations and suggestions.
