Abstract

The study aims to develop a proposal to include curriculum priorities dimension in the content of the social studies textbook for the third grade of middle school in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To achieve this objective, the researcher prepared a tool that includes a list of indicators for components of curriculum priorities dimension, which should be incorporated in the content of the book. It contains the main components for the curriculum priorities dimension, and they are: the responsible citizenship component, the Kingdom’s position and its leading role, the sustainable development component, twenty-eight indicators fall under it, and the number of sub-indicators for the responsible citizenship component reached eight indicators. The number of Kingdom’s position sub-indicators and its leading role is ten indicators, and the number of sub-indicators for the sustainable development component is ten indicators, which the content of the book was analyzed in the light of it. The researcher verified the stability of the analysis using the (Holistic) equation. The findings of this study showed a discrepancy in the inclusion of indicators of the components of the curriculum priorities dimension in the content of the book, and the indicators of components of the priorities of the curriculum dimension were distributed, as follows: The Sustainable development component (72) iterations, the component of responsible citizenship (60) iterations, the component of the Kingdom’s position and its leading role (33) iterations. The study indicated that some indicators in the responsible citizenship component, the Kingdom’s position component and its leading role, which should be included in the book’s content, do not exist. Because of that, the researcher formulated a proposal to comprise some curriculum priorities in the content of the social studies book for the third grade of middle school in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
