The role of King Abdulaziz University in enhancing the components of citizenship among its students in the light of the Kingdom vision of 2030

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the role of King Abdulaziz University in enhancing the components of citizenship among its students according to the variables of: gender, college, academic level, and university level. to achieve this goal, the study relied on the descriptive method, whereby both the research literature and the kingdom vision of 2030 were extrapolated to determine the components of citizenship that the university should enhance among students, and then estimate the degree of importance of these components through a survey of the opinions of (17) educational experts. Their opinions agreed on the importance of all components of citizenship to a large degree and 100%. Then, an electronic questionnaire was applied to (433) male and female students. The results showed that King Abdulaziz University enhances the components of citizenship among its students by an extent ranging from a medium degree to a large degree. The most promoted components of citizenship were duties and responsibilities, and basic rights, but the least ones were the digital citizenship and the values of cultural diversity. The results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between the average responses of the sample members - according to the variables of sex and university stage - on the total questionnaire, while there were statistically significant differences - according to the variables of college and university level - on the total questionnaire and in the direction of each of the religious colleges and new university students. In light of these results, the study suggested several mechanisms to activate the role of King Abdulaziz University in enhancing the components of citizenship among its students in light of the kingdom vision of 2030.
