Abstract

  The main objective of the present study is to shed light on the status quo of supervising the Dissertations and Supplementary Researches of Postgraduate Students in Educational Studies Departments in Al Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University. In addition, it investigates the obstacles that may hinder supervises fulfill their roles. And then to present a vision for the development of the role of the academic supervisor of the Theses and dissertations.

The study made use of the descriptive analytical approach through a questionnaire conducted to all postgraduate students, whose number is (199).

The major findings of the study are: the respondents indicated that supervisors fulfil the roles in a weak degree in the administration and academic dimensions, and in a moderate degree in the human dimension. Among obstacles that may hinder supervises fulfill their roles: the frequent tasks assigned to the supervisor, the supervisor's lack of experience in academic work and lack of commitment to the supervisor office hours.

The study presented a vision for developing the role of the academic supervisor that include: the objectives of supervision, tasks of supervisors, tasks of students and the different procedures that assist achieving this.
